Odd Thomas

DEAN KOONTZ

My first ever website review is on a book by Dean Koontz - Odd Thomas

As this was the book to make me cry and gasp at every twist and turn.

I read this book about 6 years ago and it's one I remember vividly I also remember saying it would make a great film and as of 2013 it was finally also a film.

Reading the book I found the characters easy to relate to, everyone feels odd and out of place at times and having a character named odd was perfect. Stormy odd's girlfriend was also an amazing character and lived and loved so much in this book even though she was portrayed to be a little confrontational. The other characters in this book was a great addition to make it more believeable and a few even make another appearence in the other books but I wont spoil it for you. All in all I loved this book and have read it now at least 3 times and each time I'm gripped from the start. If you want a great read for the summer then this is one I recommend.

DUSTY LYNN HOLLOWAY

As Dragon Dreams isnt my normal genre of reading I found myself more appreciative of the amazing writing from Dusty Lynn Holloway,

From the poetic prologue to the very last sentence I was fascinated throughout.

If you love fantasy fiction then this is great book for you.  Packed with elves, dragons and dwarves who battle with will and courage, but who will come out on top?  With great characters who you will love and hate, who will be the worthy victor?  Find out in Dragon Dreams.

Drawn

LILLIANA ANDERSON

The author of Drawn and also the Beautiful Series (which I've also read) had me 'Drawn' in from the beginning to the very last page and left me wanting more.

Who would you choose?  The safe, lover or the complete opposite of what you was trying to get away from but 10 times worse.

For Etta, moving out at 18 whilst in her final year at university was what she wanted and finally her over protective father agrees to it.  So Etta moves out.  She has a friend named Aaron who is in love with her but he wont push her too far as she wants to try life alone - that is until she meets Damien.  She is drawn to him and the tingling, electric feelings (that you see so much in movies) begin.

Damien wants to possess, control and isolate Etta but you can't help but root for him as well as Aaron too.

What a book!  Compelling and gripping from the start, it is a definite read for all lovers of passionate romance.  I cannot wait to read the sequel Drawn 2, which is available on the Amazon website.

Fate

NIKKI SEX

This is one review I found hard to write as I want to be honest and show you the books I love and hate and sadly I can't recommend this book.

Some books you feel compelled to believe the situations and feel at one with the characters.  But really how many times can you flog someone's bottom and it not split you in two?

For me, any fictional erotica or BDSM scenario needs to draw you in, being so believeable that it makes you catch your breath, as it does the characters.  But for me Fate did not have that connection.

The sex scenes were beyond repetition and I didn't feel emotive or connection with either character.

If you want a general read about a woman who has been in love with her brother's best friend since she was a child, then this book would be for you as long as you can ignore the over-the-top sex scenes.

If the writer had not overwritten these moments then I would have rated this book a lot higher.  One can see where it was going throughout the story without the need for over-bearing erotica and was otherwise okay.

Promise Me This

SARAH ASHLEY JONES

I was recently asked to read two books, Promise Me This and Promise Me Forever by Sarah Ashley Jones and give my honest reviews, which I have been happy and thrilled to do.

I was engrossed with Promise Me This from the very first page to the last as the end of the book left us wondering - Will they?  Won't they?

Firstly, I loved Charlie's concious talking to herself at the start of the book.  Very witty, which you can't help laughing along to.

This story is about two kindred souls Charlie and Jhett, and their love develops after a undeniably traumatic death of Charlie's twin brother and Jhett's best friend.

I was drawn to the love they shared from the first glance and the way it is written has you hooked from the first sentence.  It reminds me of a new-age fairytale.

After Charlie's brother, Cameron has a fatal accident, can Jhett and Charlie's love shine through after they share the loss of something they didn't realise they wanted?  The answer is found in book 2 Promise me Forever.

I give Sarah Ashley Jones' books a 5* rating and I'm looking forward to reading plenty more from this amazing author :-)

Fierce/Unstoppable/Epic

GINGER VOIGHT

Well what can I say?  After reading reviews I was looking forward to reading 'a different series'.  I have to be honest, I was disappointed to say the least.

I felt throughout the books the message being delivered was to stay overweight and uphappy with yourself and you'll get the sexy rock star?  This confused me somewhat.

Whenever the author referred to the central character Jordi's size or eating habits, I felt it was a kick in the teeth to those who struggle to lose weight and rather unfair.  It was a shame that she had numerous opportunities to lose weight yet she just threw them away like she didn't care.

I found the first book very tedious and I wasn't eager to finish it.  However for research purposes I did and all I can say is author Ginger Voight must have got what she wanted from this book.

I was angered towards the characters, and if they were in front of me - particularly the main character Jordi - I would have found it difficult not to slap her!

In some parts of the storyline e.g: discovering Jordi was born of a surrogate mother, was outweighed (excuse the pun) by the frequent mention of her weight, eating habits and binges.

Her life has not been a happy one.  As a young child, her uncle acted inappropriately with her.  She overcomes this and marries an abusive husband.  Yet despite everything she has been through, she still seems to have a normal sex life with him.  When invited onto a TV show, she meets and has an affair with a sexy rockstar.  She has no problems having an intimate relationship with him.  Somehow this doesn't seem realistic.  Surely after her experiences as a child she would struggle to get close to any man?

Without these scenes the series might have been crammed into two books and I would have enjoyed them a lot more.

Here's hoping for a better read next time.

Not Enough/Not Leaving/Not Hiding/
Not Over

LEIGH ANN LUNSFORD

I wrote short reviews on each book as I read them, but it doesn't feel fitting to compress everything into a few short lines when all four books in the Parker Sibling series were so engrossing.

What a joy it has been to read about their loves, trials and tribulations, families madness and loyalties with characters you will love and hate.  I don't have a favourite from the four books as I enjoyed them all equally.

I loved the families quirkiness and strength being loyal to each other throughout despite anything and everything that was thrown at them, pinpointed by their partner's lives and loves and what they gained throughout the series.

Each book is about strength, love and family.  The fact that they do not share a blood tie makes no difference as a family is about relationships and bonds forged by care and love.

Each bring you a new perspective but end the same with family pulling together by the end of the book.

Although you could just read the one book, I don't advise it.  I found it was worth the bottom ache as I sat there there and read all four books in 48 hours!

I am really grateful to Leigh Ann Lunsford for allowing me to review all of these books from the Parker Sibling series.  They are definitely worth a read!
